Ajax fans bid an emotional farewell to midfielder Frenkie de Jong who is set to depart the club for Barcelona in the coming weeks.De Jong, 22, has been in superb form this season, helping his side to the Eredivise title and a brilliant run in the Champions League, where they were eliminated by a last-minute Tottenham goal.The holding midfielder caught the eye of a host of European clubs with his assured displays in the middle of the park before eventually sealing a 65m switch to Barcelona back in January, with the move going through this summer.The big-money fee reflects the value Ajax place on him and there was no doubting De Jong’s popularity with the fans as thousands of supporters gathered to chant his name.De Jong stood proudly outside the Johan Cruyff Arena as Ajax supporters bid an emotional farewell to their player.
