Vincent Kompany: Pep Guardiola to hold contract talks with Manchester City captain over a beer
Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will hold talks with Vincent Kompany at the end of the season to decide where the Manchester City legend’s future lies.Kompany, the defender, is nearing the final year of his existing deal but proved he remains good enough for City by scoring a stunning winning goal against Leicester to return Guardiola’s side to the top of the Premier League table ahead of the final day.Kompany scored the most unlikely of goals to send Manchester City above Liverpool once again1

He has played a key role for City during the title run-in, starting five of the previous six matches, even though his position throughout much of the campaign has been, undeniably, a backup. The Belgium international, at 33, is clearly not as good as he used to be, and there have been suggestions he will be allowed to leave City when his deal runs out.

His recent performances could change that thinking, and Guardiola confirmed he will hold talks with Kompany when the campaign comes to a close. And rather than sitting around in a office trying to decide the defender’s future, the pair will instead go for a beer to hold talks. “We will finish the season and after we are going to talk,” Guardiola revealed after Kompany’s 25-yard strike downed Leicester on Monday night.“We spoke with him three weeks ago, one month ago. We spoke fluently two or three times. We are going to take a beer together and decide what is best especially for him and for the club.“This club is what it is because of people like Vincent. At the end of the season, after the FA Cup we will decide the best for both parties.”
