The problem, according to Duchatelet, has been the operational costs of running the club that has delayed the sale. That is what, I think, may have delayed the whole process a little because about a year ago, when we decided we wanted to sell the club, the costs were relatively high and we made significant losses and since then we have tried to reduce the cost,” he said.We have reduced substantially the cost and the operating loss. The operating loss of a football club has to be recovered by selling players from the club. Having a good academy like we have and then trying to make up for that loss by selling players. That is the system and the way you have to think about it.Charlton 'extremely saddened' by mock funeral and beach ball fan protests5

Thats what I tried to explain that a potential buyer does look also at the ongoing expenses. I think the fans are okay but Im now talking about the protesters. If the protestors really want me to sell the club why did they protest when we tried to reduce the cost so we could make the club more attractive to buyers. We are more or less in the same situation as before and are very much hoping to sell the club soon. Duchatelet also refused to rule out the possibility of making wholesale player sales during the January transfer window.A number of Charltons brightest young prospects have been sold to teams in higher divisions to help deal with the costs of running the club.Jim White asked Duchatelet live on talkSPORT if he would be making wholesale sales in January.Duchatelet said: Thats not the real problem. I am not sure. I have not discussed this and whether there is a reason to do this or not so far. We are looking at this kind of situation constantly.”Charlton's controversial owner Roland Duchatelet breaks silence to tell talkSPORT: 'These protests have no reason'5

The Belgian, who also owns clubs in Spain, Germany and Hungary, has not watched a Charlton match in person for more than four years.Despite the difficult circumstances, the Addicks find themselves fifth in League One thanks largely to manager Lee Bowyer and his coaching staff.Jim White asked Duchatelet whether he still has any affection for the club or wishes he could go and watch the club as they are doing well.Championship strugglers Charlton release statement calling for fans' support amid protests 5
Addicks fans voiced their displeasure at the way owner Roland Duchatelet is running the club
Duchatelet said: Yes sure, of course I am very keen we do well that is clear. I have no problem in general with the fans.Basically, the problem is that we have done a very very bad job in explaining the problems and reacting to this information which was given at the time.I am busy with many other things and have other football clubs and do not go very often to the other football clubs either. And his final message for the Charlton Athletic fans over the festive period?I think Christmas is a time of peace and that is important to have peace in your life and peace in your mind, he added. And also, I think for me and for everybody in the world, the most important thing in life is to enjoy life and be happy in your life. That is the main message I want to convey today.
