Paul Pogba has shown off his battle scars after Manchester United began 2019 with a win against relegation battling Newcastle.Pogba failed to continue his recent brilliant form in front of goal against the Magpies, only playing a supporting role in the 2-0 win at St James’ Park.And the France midfielder was lucky to see out the whole match, with a horror tackle from Jonjo Shelvey leaving him crumpled on the ground with just under 20 minutes remaining.4

Pobga was lucky to remain largely unhurt, and he took little time after the end of the match to react to Shelvey’s tackle on social media.‘Caption this’ is a reference to a post sent out on Pogba’s social media channels less than an hour after Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester Untied last month, which appeared to mock the Portuguese.The post was quickly deleted and is believed to have been a poorly timed advert.4

It has become something of a running joke since then, with Pogba sending a second ‘caption this’ post to tease the launch of his own Emoji app, Pogmoji.Despite his failure to score or assist a goal in the defeat of Newcastle, Pogba has been in superb form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named United manager on a caretaker basis, succeeding Mourinho on a deal until the end of the season.
