Having been invited to the role byby joint majority shareholders Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones in December 2015, Balls was supposed to hold the position for only a year. However, he now feels as though the time is right for him to step down, calling it a ‘dream come true’ on the day his beloved side beat Rotheram United at Carrow Road.Balls told the club’s official website: “Having had to accept several decades ago that I would never play for Norwich City, it’s been the next best thing – and a dream come true – to serve as the Chairman of the football club I have supported all my life.“And like so many Norwich fans, I’m loving watching Norwich play this season. Its great to see all the changes that we have put in place together over the past eighteen months now delivering such success on the pitch. Huge credit goes to our Head Coach Daniel Farke, Sporting Director Stuart Webber and everyone at Colney and Carrow Road.Teemu Pukki pounces to score for Norwich City in Saturday’s game2

“When Delia and Michael asked me to join the Board as a non-executive Director back in 2015, and then at short notice to become Chairman, we agreed I would do the job as Chair for a year.“With all the turbulent changes we have faced following relegation from the Premier League, that term has been extended – and for all the highs and lows we’ve faced in that time, I’ve regarded every moment as a privilege. But the three-year anniversary of my appointment on Boxing Day is now the right time for me to stand down.”A former contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, the 51-year-old was thanked vociferously by Smith and the rest of the Canaries team.Delia and Michael said: Wed like to sincerely thank Ed for all of his hard work on behalf of Norwich City since he agreed to join us in 2015. During a rollercoaster period for the Club he has been a very important advisor and sounding board for both Directors and senior executives, particularly on financial matters.Hes always been an enthusiastic and positive supporter of the Club in his public life and through the media and were delighted he will join fellow Canary Stephen Fry in continuing to promote all things Norwich City in his new role as a Club Ambassador and Vice President – and hes promised us hes going to wear his Norwich scarf when hes on television!
